“A Fast-Food CEO Hires His Way, With Advisers’ Help- Restaurant Brands’ José Cil relies on the importance of personal involvement to beef up Burger King” – WSJ For this Wall Street Journal assignment, I went over to make a portrait of the recently- appointed CEO of Restuarant Brands International, José Cil, at the newly renovated RBI headquarters in Miami, FL. Queef Latina Stars in Cabana Fever

January 27, 2020 by Sonya Revell

Last year we met our bored housewife for the first time, but the story continues… A weary drag housewife, bored by the repetitive nature of her daily tasks, seeks more beauty and excitement in her life.  As she takes her latest drag creation out for a stroll, she gets the call she’s been waiting for! She packs her bags and calls the nanny to look after her drag children while she’s gone. She dyes her hair dark and buys […]

Simmons Delegation Portraits

December 4, 2019 by Sonya Revell

“While studying journalism, I noticed an absence of Black stories, an erasure of the richness and complexity of Black life.  When stories about blackness did appear, they featured depictions of violence, disadvantage, and the occasional success story implicating Black accomplishment was somehow surprising.  The lack of narrative diversity created a subconscious internalization: Black journalists must be as absent as Black stories.” – Maya Valentine Simmons University sent its first delegation to the National Association of Black Journalist Convention, in Miami.  […]

Lifestyle Portraits | Compass

November 2, 2019 by Sonya Revell

In Miami, real estate is Queen! (Or King, depending on your preference 😉  My partnership with Compass has lead me to photograph some of the top real estate agents that live and work around sunny South Florida.  And we’ve produced some fun lifestyle and portrait photography that highlights the neighborhoods, listings, and agents’ personalities all at once.  Here are a couple of my recent favorites with a few queens of Miami real estate… Marcy and Lori in the Upper Eastside- […]

Southern Poverty Law Center | Portraits

October 23, 2019 by Sonya Revell

Several months back, I was commissioned by the SPLC to make some portraits of 22 yr. old, Hakeem Drane, who had been held in solitary confinement in a Florida prison and was recently released. As reported by the Southern Poverty Law Center “During the afternoon of Sept. 5, 2018, Hakeem Drane was asleep in his disciplinary confinement cell at Lake Correctional Institution – one of the few ways to pass the time in confinement. But the 22-year-old would be stirred […]

Fitness Photography | OneSpaWorld

September 25, 2019 by Sonya Revell

In the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian, the Bahamas have really been on my mind.  Bahamians still desperately need our help and I would encourage anyone interested in lending a hand to donate what they can or to volunteer.  I personally donated to an amazing organization, called Third Wave Volunteers.  I am so inspired by the good work they are doing, not just in the Bahamas, but all around the world. Since tourism is a leading economic driver in the Bahamas, […]

Teresa Weintraub | BC Law Alumni

September 7, 2019 by Sonya Revell

Teresa Weintraub—international wealth advisor, mother, Cuban expat, Miami resident, and much more—has a full life, to say the least.  And back in May, I had the opportunity to photograph this busy Boston College Law Alum at her home in Coral Gables.   Mrs. Weintraub is an inspiring figure who has overcome the odds not just to survive, but to flourish. Her family fled Cuba and lost a considerable amount of wealth in the process, settling as one of the many […]

Synovus Bank | Advertising Portraits

July 11, 2019 by Sonya Revell

A few months back I was invited to collaborate with Fitzco, an Atlanta-based ad agency, to photograph a regional advertising campaign for Synovus bank.  For this project, my team and I got to hop is a big blue cargo van and take a little road trip around South and Central Florida, during which, we photographed seven Synovus bankers, in six cities, over six days. Since Synovus’s slogan is “The Bank of Here” the goal was to make environmental portraits of these […]

portrait photography of NFL player, Brandon Copeland, with interview for Kiplinger's magazine

Brandon Copeland | Kiplinger’s Magazine

June 17, 2019 by Sonya Revell

I had the good fortune to photograph NFL New York Jets linebacker, Brandon Copeland, for Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine a while back.  My assistant and I set up a makeshift studio inside Copeland’s training gym in Weston, Florida, where we made his portrait for this article.  We chatted with the expectant father about his baby on the way, flipping houses in Detroit, and his thoughts on concussions (something I have personal experience with).  He couldn’t have been nicer or more […]

Active Lifestyle | Blue Lizard Sunscreen

May 16, 2019 by Sonya Revell

Earlier this year I was hired to capture some lifestyle photography in tandem with a video shoot, for Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen.  This was a unique photo shoot for me because I used only natural light and my approach was a bit more fast and loose than normal. Our location was a gorgeous home in South Miami (I had actually photographed at this particular home once before) where we had many great background options, including a pool and a back […]
