Queef Latina Stars in Cabana Fever

January 27, 2020 by Sonya Revell

Last year we met our bored housewife for the first time, but the story continues… A weary drag housewife, bored by the repetitive nature of her daily tasks, seeks more beauty and excitement in her life.  As she takes her latest drag creation out for a stroll, she gets the call she’s been waiting for! She packs her bags and calls the nanny to look after her drag children while she’s gone. She dyes her hair dark and buys […]

Simmons Delegation Portraits

December 4, 2019 by Sonya Revell

“While studying journalism, I noticed an absence of Black stories, an erasure of the richness and complexity of Black life.  When stories about blackness did appear, they featured depictions of violence, disadvantage, and the occasional success story implicating Black accomplishment was somehow surprising.  The lack of narrative diversity created a subconscious internalization: Black journalists must be as absent as Black stories.” – Maya Valentine Simmons University sent its first delegation to the National Association of Black Journalist Convention, in Miami.  […]

A Portrait of Granada Presbyterian for ByFaith Magazine

August 25, 2016 by Sonya Revell

A while back, I got a fun commission from ByFaith magazine, to create portraits of the congregation at Granada Presbyterian Church, for their cover story on diversity.  My assistant, Dragi and I set up a make-shift studio inside Granada’s sanctuary, in Coral Gables, FL and with some help, gathered and photographed as many members as we could over the course of one day.  Everyone at Granada was incredibly welcoming and it was wonderful to meet so many families and individuals, […]

Portraits of Florida Panthers CEO, Rory Babich

December 17, 2015 by Sonya Revell

The last time I went  ice-skating I was 13 years old.  It didn’t go well.  I rented a pair of ill-filling skates, my ankles buckled and I held onto the railing for dear life for most of the session. I blame the skates. As I was preparing for my photo shoot with Rory Babich, CEO of the Florida Panthers, I  replayed my last attempt at ice-skating over and over in my mind.  I had been commissioned by Penn Law Journal […]

Preserving the Past in Palm Beach

September 24, 2015 by Sonya Revell

Note to self….Don’t knock over the priceless painting!  That was my first thought upon entering Barbara Stella’s pristine studio in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she works to conserve and restore art.  Did I mention her resume includes the restoration of pieces by master painters, Rembrandt and Veronese? Once I got over my irrational fear of tripping into a priceless work of art, I had a great time photographing the space and collaborating with Barbara on our Luxe Interiors + Design […]

July 8, 2015 by Sonya Revell

For my shoot with This Old House magazine, not only did I get the chance to collaborate with some great people, but I also got to get up-close-and-personal with a few power tools, while learning how to build a gorgeous cedar picnic table from scratch!  Check out the ‘How-To’ story below, along with a few of my favorite portraits of senior technical editor, Mark Powers, in action. Special thanks to: Special Projects Editor- Eric Hagerman Senior Technical Editor- Mark Powers […]
